Armed robbery Co. Kildare, 21st April 2013

Gardai have arrested one male and recovered a firearm following an armed robbery this morning (21/4/2013) in Co. Kildare.

At approximately 8.15 a.m. two males armed with a firearm entered a shop in Johnstown. They held up staff before escaping with a sum of money. There were no shots fired during the raid and no physical injuries. The alarm was raised and Gardai apprehended a man near to the scene and recovered a firearm (handgun) along with a sum of money a short time later.

The man, who is aged in his 30s, was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Naas Garda Station.

A second male involved in the incident escaped in a car which has since been located and enquiries are ongoing.
