Operation Nitrogen - drug seizures and arrests on the 24/10/12

Gardai investigation the cultivation of cannabis have discovered 4 large industrial style grow houses and arrested 5 people in searches today.

As part of a planned intelligence led operation targeting the cultivation of cannabis Gardai from the Garda National Drug Unit assisted by Divisional Units from Buncrana, Swinford, Ardee, Newbridge, Tramore, Store Street, Clondalkin and Blanchardstown carried out searches at a number of industrial units located in Buncrana, Swinford, Ardee, Newbridge, Tramore, Gardiner Street, Clondalkin and Blanchardstown. 
 

These searches resulted in the discovery of 4 large industrial style grow houses where cannabis plants with a combined estimated street value of up to €5 million ( pending analysis) were discovered: 
 

Ardee (€1.2 million)

Swinford (€1.4 million)

Tramore (€1.6 million)

Newbridge (€800,000)

 
A storage depot for equipment used in cultivation was also discovered in an industrial unit in Blanchardstown in Dublin. 
 

Five males were arrested and are currently detained As follows:
 

Ballina       2

Tramore    2

Drogheda  1 
 

They are all detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
