Investigation into the murder of Seamus Doherty, Churchill, Donegal on the 17/6/12 - Further Update

Gardai investigating the murder of Seamus Doherty have this evening released without charge the male in his 40’s who was arrested on the 20/06/12.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.  The female remains in custody.

Investigating Gardai have made two arrests as part of the investigation into the murder of Seamus Doherty.

A male aged in his 40's was arrested yesterday evening (20/6/2012) and a female in her 50's was arrested this morning. 'They are both detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Letterkenny Garda Station.

Gardai in Millford are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Churchill, Co Donegal on the 17th June 2012.

At approximately 1.50am on the 17th June 2012 Gadrai and emergency services were called to a house at Drumacnoo near the village of Churchill where the body of 67 year old Seamus Doherty was discovered.  He was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to Letterkenny Hospital.

Following a post-mortem examination carried out by the State Pathologist Prof. Marie Cassidy on the 19th June the it was established that Mr Doherty had died in suspicious circumstances.

An incident room has been set up at Letterkenny Garda Station and Gardai have begun a murder investigation.

The scene remains preserved pending a full forensic and technical examination.
