Discovery of bodies in Bagnalstown, Carlow on the 22/2/12 - Update

The Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Michael Curtis has visited both scenes and the Garda Technical Bureaus examination is continuing.

The two scenes are still preserved. 


The bodies of the 71 and 51 year old males have been removed from both scenes to Naas General Hospital where Post Mortems are scheduled to be carried out tomorrow the 22/02/12.

Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of two bodies at Ballycormack, Bagnalstown, Co. Carlow on the 22nd February 2012.

At 4.00 am fire brigade officers responding to a report of a fire at a farmhouse near Bagnalstown discovered the body of a man believed to be in his early 70's.  The body of the man remains at the scene and the area is sealed off pending a technical examination.

At 9.00am the body of a second man was discovered in a farm building on an adjoining farm.  This man is believed to be in his 60's and his body remains at the scene.

The services of the State Pathologist have been requested and forensic examiners from the Garda Technical Bureau are on the way to the scene.
