Extensive Flooding in Clare and in Cork City 19th Nov 2009

Traffic management measures are in place at the more severely flooded area and the co-operation of drivers is requested.

 

The urban area of Ennis has been affected badly by flooding. An Garda Siochana are working closely with Clare County Council and other emergency services. Army assistance has been requested and is being provided in respect of the provision of sand bags to effected properties.

 

Superintendent John Scanlan at Ennis Garda Station “ We are appealing for persons to avoid the areas if possible and exercise great care if travelling in the areas ”.

 

He would also appeal to the local community to look out for their neighbours and to avoid travelling if possible.  Superintendent Scanlan added “ we would appeal for everyone to co-operate with the emergency services, “

N85 Ennis to Inagh is now passable with some water still on the road at Kilmona & Inagh, flood on the Ennistymon side of Inagh at Cullenagh, no diversion in place, passable with care water 8 inches deep

Corofin to Ennis impassable at Tonnagh, Tierneys in Corofin
Fountain Cross to Mauricesmills impassable

As a result of heavy rains in and around Cork City severe flooding is expected in low line areas of Cork City especially around Enniscarra, Carrigrohane, Lee Rd and Carrigrohane Road
