Drug seizure and arrests at Rathmines, Dublin on the 15/11/09

The total value of these seizures is in excess of €700,000, pending analysis.

 

On the 15th November 2009 members of the Organised Crime Unit were involved in an operation targeting the sale and supply of BZP tablets in the Dublin area. 

 

OCU detectives stopped and searched a car on Grove Road, Rathmines on 15th November 2009.  During the course of the search, a suitcase, which contained approximately 150,000 BZP tablets, was recovered.  The driver of the car, a 25 year old man, was arrested.

  

Further investigations resulted in the search of a flat in the Rathmines area where more BZP tablets were recovered.  This seizure resulted in  two further arrests - 2 men - aged 20  and 21 years respectively. Uniform and Detective Units from Rathmines and Terenure Garda Stations assisted in this search.

 

The total value of these seizures is in excess of €700,000, pending analysis.

 

All 3 men were detained under section 2 of  The Drug Trafficking Act at Terenure and Rathmines Garda Stations.  

 

The first man who was arrested (driver of the car) appeared before Dublin District Court 44 this morning, the 17/11/09.  He was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on 23 November 2009.

 

One of the other 2 men was released from custody yesterday morning without charge.

 

The third man remains in custody.
