Computer fraud advice

Anyone in receipt of these emails should never click on any such link as doing so enables the download of malicious software. These emails should immediately be deleted.

 

The Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation (G.B.F.I.) has been advised by members of the public that they are receiving emails, purportedly from well known Irish financial institutions, asking that various financial transactions be confirmed.  The email recipient is requested to click a link within the email to view the transactions.

 

Anyone in receipt of these emails should never click on any such link as doing so enables the download of malicious software.  These emails should immediately be deleted. 

 

The Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation would like to confirm that financial institutions in the Republic of Ireland WILL NEVER communicate with customers by means of an unsolicited email and will NEVER ask customers to confirm their banking details by email.

 

If bank customers have any concerns they should contact their local bank branch / financial institution or contact the relevant helplines.

 

At this time the financial institutions have indicated that no financial loss has been suffered but are warning customers to be vigilant.  This press release is being issued as a crime prevention measure.
