Assault in Limerick on he 29/5/09 - Witness appeal

The incident took place on Thursday, the 29th May 2009, between 12.30am and 2.00am.

Gardai at Roxboro Road Garda Station in Limerick are investigating a serious assault in the city and are looking for the publics help. The incident took place on Thursday, the 29th May 2009, between 12.30am and 2.00am.  This was the night of the Champions League final and therefore there was a larger crowd in the city than on a normal mid-week night.  It was a busy time of the night for taxi drivers and revellers on their way home.

The victim, a woman in her 40's from the Limerick area had been socialising in the the city centre with friends  and at approximately 12.30am got a taxi from Liddy Street (adjacent to Sarsfield Street) to travel to the Dooradoyle/Raheen area.  It is not known were she got out of the taxi, but some time before 2am the woman was seriously assaulted by a male.  Following the incident the woman was unable to locate her handbag containing keys and her mobile phone.

The woman was wearing a black and white striped top with a black waistcoat; white trousers and white sandals. She was carrying a white handbag.  We are also anxious to hear from anyone who may have come upon the white handbag, keys or mobile phone discarded in any location to contact us.

Gardai would like anyone who was in the Dooradoyle/Raheen area, particularly in the St. Nessan's Road area, between the Mid-Western Regional Hospital and the Raheen Roundabout to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214342 or the Garda confidential number 1800 666 111
