Stolen tools recovered in Ballinasloe, Galway

Gardai in Ballinasloe investigating the theft of a 4 x 4 vehicle in March from the Dublin area arrested 2 males in their mid 20’s in Caltra, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway yesterday - 29th July 2009.

 

The arrests were made after Gardai intercepted the vehicle at a checkpoint in the Caltra area at approximately 4pm yesterday.

 

The 2 men in their mid 20’s are currently detained at Ballinasloe Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice act.

 

As part of a follow-up operation Gardai carried out a number of searches of houses in the Ballinasloe and Loughrea areas.

 

In the course of the searches Gardai recovered a significant number of tools and a Mercedes van believed to have been stolen previously.

 

The total value of items recovered is estimated to be in the region of €65,000.  (Mercedes Van - €25000, 4 x 4 - €30,000, assorted tools - €10,000).

 

The recovered tools are believed to be have been stolen in the West of Ireland over the last couple of months.

The Gardai are now endeavouring to locate owners for this property.

 

Among the items recovered are:

 

Chain saws, angle grinders, power washers, boxes of tools, floodlights, electric drills, an assortment of electric saws, and other items.
