Seizure of firearms - Tallaght, Dublin on the 21/1/09

Two handguns were recovered during the course of planned searches by Gardai investigating the fatal shooting of Stephen O’ Halloran at Kilmartin Drive in Tallaght, Dublin 24 on the 19th of January 2009.

 

Garda investigating the fatal shooting of Stephen O’ Halloran at Kilmartin Drive in Tallaght, Dublin 24 on the 19th of January recovered two handguns during the course of planned searches yesterday (20.01.09). They have been taken away for technical examination.

Gardai wish to renew their appeal to witnesses that may have been in the area of Kilmartin Drive before midnight on the 19/01/09 or to anyone that may be able to assist the gardai with their enquiries to contact the Tallaght Garda Station 01-6666000, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line, 1800 -666-111, or any Garda Station.

In a separate search, Gardai from Finglas Garda station involved in investigating criminal activity in North Dublin have seized two handguns and heroin with an estimated street value of €87,000 (subject to analysis) during the course of a planned search in the Finglas area earlier today.

Garda are investigating a fatal shoot at Kilmartin Drive in Tallaght, Dublin 24, shortly before twelve mid-night on the 19th of January. Gardai on patrol in the area responding to what appeared to be gunshots discovered the body of a 20 year old man in a car in the driveway of a house. The man who had injuries to his upper body was pronounced dead at the scene.

On searching the house Gardai found two further men, both in their twenties, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. These men were taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital where they are described as being in a serious condition.

The scene is preserved for technical examination and a major investigation is under way. Garda are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 01 666 6000.
