The exact scene of the collision was on the N80 at Derrymoyle which is approximately 3km from Carlow.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was travelling this road between 9.30pm and 10.45pm, on Friday 16th January 2009, to contact them at Carlow on 059 9136620.

Gardai at Abbeyleix are investigating a single vehicle Fatal Road Traffic Collision that occurred on the 16.01.09 at approximately 10.30pm on the Carlow to Portlaoise Road (N80) about 3km from Carlow.
A 41 year old male passenger was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in collided with a wall. The driver and only other occupant was injured and taken to St. Lukes Hospital, Kilkenny.
The road is currently closed and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will examine the scene this morning.
