Garda injured in attempted robbery at Kilmainham, Diblin on the 7/12/09

A Garda received facial injuries when he attempted to prevent a robbery at a shop on South Circular Road at about 7pm.

The injured Garda, who is in his early 30s, was taken to St. James’ Hospital.  The plainclothes Garda, who was on duty, was passing the shop when he saw a man jump over the counter and threaten staff, this man is believed to have been armed with a knife.  The Garda confronted the man and received a slash wound to the face.


The man escaped from the scene in a small red car possibly a Honda Civic.   A car fitting this description was discovered a short distance away on Connolly Avenue.  The suspect is described as 6 ft., thin build and was described as wearing a lot of layers, and a balaclava.  Gardai do not believe anything was taken during the raid.


The areas around the shop and where the car was recovered have been sealed off for technical examination and the incident in under investigation.  The Garda's injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
