Arrests in Longford on the 10/12/09 - Update

Gardai have charged two males following an aggravated Burglary in at a house in Clondra, Co. Longford on 10/12/09.

The men, one aged in his 20's and a second in his 30's, are due before a sitting of Mullingar District Court this afternoon, the 11/12/09.


A third man aged in his 30's has been released pending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai have arrest three men, following aggravated burglary at house in Clondra, Co. Longford occupied by two elderly people.

The incident occurred at approx. 1.20am on the 10th of December 2009, when three men entered the house which was occupied by a 74 year old female and 65 year old male. The elderly couple were held hostage in a bathroom where they managed to raise the alarm.


Local Gardai Units from Longford arrived at the scene, and the three men tried to escape. They were pursued on foot and arrested. The 3 males (2 in their 30’s and 1 in his 20’s), are currently detained at Longford Garda Station under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984.


The elderly couple are currently at Roscommon General Hospital where they are receiving treatment for minor injuries and shock. The scene is preserved for technical examination and the investigation is ongoing.
