Investigations into the activities of organised criminals in Dublin and adjoining counties - 19/8/09

Over 150 armed detectives carried out 23 searches in Dublin City and county, Louth and Meath.

 

As part of ongoing investigations into the activities of organised criminals in Dublin and adjoining counties, Gardaí this morning (19th August 2009) have carried out a targeted intelligence-led operation involving searches of private residences, business premises and professional offices.

 

Over 150 armed detectives carried out 23 searches in Dublin City and county, Louth and Meath. The majority of the searches were carried out in the Greater Dublin area with one in Louth and one in Meath.

 

The operation was co-ordinated by Assistant Commissioner Derek Byrne, National Support Services, and involved officers from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Organised Crime Unit, the Criminal Assets Bureau, the Garda National Drugs Unit, the Emergency Response Unit and was supported by officers from local divisions.

 

Speaking at Garda Headquarters today, Deputy Commissioner Martin Callinan, Head of Operations, stated:

“These targeted searches are part of An Garda Síochána’s ongoing enforcement of the legislation relating to organised crime and our continuing investigations into the activities of organised criminal groups.”

 

Documents and other items were seized. No arrests were made.
