Incidents in Ballinrobe, Mayo on the 16/8/09 - Arrests

All 3 are being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

 

Gardai investigating two serious incidents at Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo on Sunday, the 16th August 2009 conducted a number of searches this morning, the 19th August 2009 in counties Mayo, Galway and Sligo and arrested 3 men.

All 3 are being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. They are being detained at Claremorris and Castlebar Garda Stations.

Gardaí in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo are investigating two separate incidents which occurred in the town in the early hours of this morning Sunday 16th August 2009.

At approximately 3.30am two men (27 & 32 years) were assaulted while walking down New Street, Ballinrobe by a number of men.  Both were removed to Castlebar General Hospital for their injuries.  The 32 year old man was released from hospital a short time later; however the 27 year old man has since been transferred to Beaumount Hospital Dublin with serious head injuries.

A short time later a second incident occurred at The Neale Road, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo.  Two males (20 & 31 years) were assaulted by a number of men.  Both received stab wounds to their necks.  They were both taken to Castlebar General Hospital for treatment.

No arrests have been made at this time.  Investigations are continuing into both incidents.
