Incidents at Ballinrobe, Mayo on the 16/8/09 - Update

One of the original three men arrested was released without charge and a file will be prepared for the D.P.P. and a further man was arrested.

 

A further man was arrested in relation to this investigation late this afternoon, the 19/8/09 in the Galway area bringing the total in custody to 4.

 

Since then, this evening, 1 of the original 3 men arrested was released without charge and a file will be prepared for The Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to his detention.

 

Therefore, the number of men now in custody is 3.  They are being detained at Castlebar and Claremorris Stations and are all in their 20's.

 

The man who was released this evening is also in his 20's.

Gardai investigating two serious incidents at Ballinrobe Co. Mayo on Sunday the 16th August 2009 conducted a number of searches this morning the 19th August 2009 in counties Mayo, Galway and Sligo and arrested 3 men. All 3 are being detained under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. They are being detained at Claremorris and Castlebar Garda Stations

Gardaí in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo are investigating two separate incidents which occurred in the town in the early hours of this morning Sunday 16th August 2009.

At approximately 3.30am two men (27 & 32 years) were assaulted while walking down New Street, Ballinrobe by a number of men.  Both were removed to Castlebar General Hospital for their injuries.  The 32 year old man was released from hospital a short time later; however the 27 year old man has since been transferred to Beaumount Hospital Dublin with serious head injuries.

A short time later a second incident occurred at The Neale Road, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo.  Two males (20 & 31 years) were assaulted by a number of men.  Both received stab wounds to their necks.  They were both taken to Castlebar General Hospital for treatment.

No arrests have been made at this time.  Investigations are continuing into both incidents.
