Cross Border fuel smuggling investigation

Operation Jutty was conducted as part of the work of the Organised Crime Task Force.

 

A joint law enforcement operation took place today, the 21st of April 2009, on both sides of the border targeting fuel smuggling. 

 

Operation Jutty was conducted as part of the work of the Organised Crime Task Force.  It involved officers from local Garda Stations, the Garda Criminal Assets Bureau, the Garda Emergency Response Unit and the Irish Customs Service, and in Northern Ireland officers from Her Majesty’s Royal Customs Service as well as officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

 

The purpose of the operation was to gather evidence and to identify and seize assets held by suspected fuel smugglers.

 

Thirteen searches were carried out in this jurisdiction, in counties Monaghan, Cavan and Donegal.  The searches took place at professional offices, private residences and business premises.

 

The following was seized: €20,000 in cash, documentation, three vehicles, and in excess of 75,000 litres of fuel.
