Murder investigation in Cork- body found on 12/10/08 - and updates

Gardai in Anglesea Street in Cork are treating as suspicious the discovery of the body of a 62 year old male found at a residence on High Street in Cork yesterday - 12th October 2008.

 

The 23 year old man arrested and detained in connection with the death of Donal Manley in Cork on the 12th of October 2008 will appear at a special sitting of Cork District Court, Anglesea Street, at 3.30pm on Sunday the 19/10/2008.  Previous press releases, listed below refer.

Gardai investigating the death of Donal Manley in Cork on the 12th October 2008 have arrested a 23 year old man in connection with this investigation. The man was arrested in Cork City last night (17th October 2008) and is currently detained at the Bridewell Garda Station, Cork under Section 4 (Criminal Justice Act).

One week on Gardai investigating the death of Donal Manley, whose body was discovered in his house at High Street in Cork city, are appealing for witnesses to contact them.  They are asking people who may regularly travel in this area of Cork city to try to recall last Friday and would like anyone who was in the High Street/Southern Road/Douglas Road area of the city on the afternoon of Friday the 10th of October 2008  to contact them. 

More specifically they are asking anyone who was in the area, between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., and who saw a man in a red jacket carring a flat screen TV to contact Gardai.  The man is described as 6' and of strong build, he may have been carrying a black umbrella.  Gardai believe that this man hailed a taxi in the area and was taken into the city centre. Gardai are appealing for any taxi drivers who were operating in the High Street/Southern/ Douglas Road areas last Friday to contact them.  Gardai believe that this man may be able to assist them with their investigation.  The number to contact is Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021 4522 000.

The postmortem into the death of Donal Manley has been completed and the examination has indicated that he died as a result of serious head injuries.   (See original press release below 1176/'08.)    Gardai are renewing their appealing to anyone who may have seen Mr Manly after midday on Friday 10th October or have any information to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021-4522000 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.  There will be no media briefing at this time.

Gardai in Anglesea Street in Cork are treating as suspicious the discovery of the body of a 62 year old male found at a residence on High Street in Cork yesterday - 12th October 2008 at approximately 8.30pm.  The body has been identified as being that of 62 year old Mr Donal Manley of High Street, Cork. 

A postmortem examination has been commenced and will resume in the morning - Tuesday 14th October. 

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have seen Mr Manly after midday on Friday 10th October or have any information to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021-4522000 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.  A photograph of Mr Manly is available from the Garda Press Office.
