Search for missing hill walker in the Dublin Mountains on the 22/3/08 and body found.

Gardai along with Civil Defence and local mountain rescue personnel are searching in the Wicklow Mountains near Blessington for a 71 year old man.

Gardai in Baltinglass Garda Station can confirm that the body located in the Wicklow Mountains near Blessington this afternoon at 3 p.m. is that of the missing man 71 year old, Walter Hammond of New Haven, Blessington, Co. Wicklow.

Gardai in Baltinglass wish to express their appreciation to all those who rendered assistance in the locating of Mr. Hammond.

Gardai along with Civil Defence and local mountain rescue personnel are searching in the Wicklow Mountains near Blessington for a 71 year old man who was reported missing on the 20th of March 2008, when he failed to return from a hill walking trip.

A search of his proposed route by mountain rescue personnel on the 21th of March proved negative. Walter Hammond of New Haven, Blessington, Co. Wicklow is described as 6'3'', well built and when last seen he was wearing a navy anorak, navy fleece and he was carrying a black and wine rucksack.

Garda are asking any members of the public, particularly any hill walkers who may have been walking in the Mullaghcleevaun or Black Hill area and who may have seen a man fitting Mr. Hammonds description to call them at Baltinglass Garda Station on 059 6482610.
