Garda investigation - Newcastle Murder - and updates.

Gardai from Clondalkin Garda station, Dublin investigating the murder of John Berney at Newcastle, Co. Dublin last Friday, 6/3/08 are appealing for information.

 

Gardai from Clondalkin Garda station, Dublin investigating the murder of John Berney at Newcastle, Co. Dublin last Friday, 6/3/08 are appealing for information about the movements of a Blue Ford Focus Zetec car which was used in this crime.

The registered number of this car is 06-D-63122 and it was stolen from Dublin Airport sometime between January 9th - January 15th.

Gardai are anxious to ascertain where this car was kept in the period between when it was stolen and when the murder occurred.

The car may also have been fitted with false registration plates during this period.

They would also like to speak to any person who may have seen this car in Newcastle on the night of the shooting to contact Clondalkin Gardai on 01-666-7600.

The man who died in the shooting incident at Castlelyons Drive Newcastle Co.Dublin on the 6th of March 2008 (previous release below refers) was 29 year old Mr John Berney of Castlelyon Drive, Newcastle, Dublin.

Gardai are investigating the death of a 29 year old man and the serious injury of another in his 20's at a house at Castlelyons Drive, Newcastle, Co. Dublin. 

Gardai responding to a report of a possible shooting incident called to the house at about 10.30p.m. on the 6th of March 2008.   

On arrival they found a badly injured man, believed to be 22 years old, lying in the hallway of the house. 

The Gardai at the scene on checking an upstairs bedroom discovered the body of another man believed to be 29 years old. 

The man had serious injuries to his head and back. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The dead man's partner and two young children aged 3 and 5 years were in the house at the time.  

The injured man was taken to Tallaght Hospital and is believed to be in a stable condition. 

A short distance from the scene at Newcastle Glebe Close Gardai discovered a car on fire.

This car will be technically examined as part of the investigation. 

The body of the dead man remains at the scene pending the arrival of the State Pathologist, and the scene is preserved for forensic examination by crime scene examiners from the Garda Technical Bureau.
