Grenade attack - Drimnagh, Dublin on the 28/6/08

Gardaí at Sundrive Road are investigating a grenade attack that took place on a house on Knocknarea Avenue, Dublin.

Gardaí at Sundrive Road are investigating a grenade attack that took place shortly after 2am this morning, the 28/06/08 on a house on Knocknarea Avenue.

A red Fiat Punto was used in this attack.  It pulled up to the house and a male ran to the front door, threw a rock in the window of the front door, breaking the glass, and then threw in an explosive device.

The Garda Technical Bureau are at scene at present and a preliminary examination would suggest that the device was a hand grenade.

When it exploded it caused extensive damage to the hall and living room and some damage to the upstairs rooms.

There were four adults, one teenager and a six year old boy in the house at the time.

Nobody was injured in the attack.

The Fiat Punto was found burned out on Sperrin Road a short time later.

Both scenes remain preserved.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Knocknarea Avenue or Sperrin Road areas, between 1.30am and 2.30am, to contact them.

Contact can be made to Gardaí at Sundrive Road on 01 6666600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
