Christy Hanly murder - and updates

Gardaí investigating the murder of Mr. Christy Hanley in Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath have confirmed that the post mortem has been completed.

 

The man detained at Athlone Garda Station by Gardai investigating the murder of Christy Hanly in Kilbeggan (previous release below refers) will appear before a special sitting of Tullamore District Court tonight 25th June 2008 at 11.15pm.

Gardai investigating the murder of Christy Hanley in Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath on the 22nd May 2008 have arrested a 46 year old man in Dublin City this afternoon at 2p.m. approximately.  

He is currently detained at Athlone Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4, Criminal Justice Act. 

You will be advised of further developments in course.

Superintendent Aidan Glacken will do a short press briefing with a renewed appeal for information in connection with the investigation into the murder of Christy Hanley.

The briefing will take place at 2 p.m. at the incident room at the Gateway Business Park in Kilbeggan.

Gardaí investigating the murder of Mr. Christy Hanley in Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath have confirmed that the post mortem has been completed.

The results indicate that Mr. Hanley suffered a number of injuries which contributed to his death.

Investigations are continuing and Superintendent, Athlone has appealed to the public once again for information. 

He said: "I would appeal to the community to help us in our investigations into Mr. Hanley’s death. We would like to hear from anybody who was in the Kilbeggan area between 5 p.m. on Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning. An Garda Síochána has committed significant resources to this investigations and our work will be greatly assisted and enhanced by continued support and information from the community."  

The Superintendent also renewed his appeal to the individual who telephoned gardaí early on Thursday morning to contact gardaí again.

Gardai in Kilbeggan are closing the main street to traffic with immediate effect.

All Traffic travelling on the N6 that passes through Kilbeggan will be diverted outside the town, on both the Western and Eastern approaches.

Motorists are requested to make alternative travel arrangements and to avoid Kilbeggan.

HGV's will be diverted via Tullamore.

The road closures are in connection with  an earlier incident in the town.

Gardai in Athlone are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body of an 80 year old man in a house at Main Street, Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath shortly after 10 a.m. this morning the 22nd May, 2008. 

The scene has been preserved for technical examination and the State Pathologist's Office has been notified.   

The investigation into the circumstances of this death is continuing and any updates will be issued.
