Public order arrests at Mullingar, Westmeath on the 29/7/08.

Gardai in Mullingar attended a scene of public disorder involving up to 200 persons at Dalton Park, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath on the 29th July 2008.

 

Gardai in Mullingar attended a scene of public disorder involving up to 200 persons at Dalton Park, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath this morning 29th July at approximately 12 noon. 

Assistance was brought in from surrounding areas and the Garda Air Support Unit.  Two petrol bombs were ignited during the incident. A number of people were brought to hospital and others were treated at the scene. 

Gardai arrested three males and one female in relation to the original incident at Dalton Park, Mullingar.  Males aged from 20 yrs to 50 yrs and female who was subsequently released. 

All were arrested for Public Order offences.  

In the course of this incident the window of an official garda vehicle was damaged. 

A number of people were taken to Mullingar General Hospital. – one detained with head injuries not life threatening.  A number of others were treated for lacerations to arms, faces etc.   

When the injured were taken to hospital another incident occurred. Four more males were arrested for public order offences and taken to Mullingar Garda Station. 

Public Order Unit, Dog Unit, Air Support Unit and Garda Resources from the Division have been drafted in to assist.   

Seven men are now due to appear at a special sitting of Mullingar District Court at 6.00pm today - 29.7.08 - in relation to the incidents.
