The Garda Commissioner extends his sympathies to the Polish people

The Commissioner together with Deputy Commissioner, Operations and Assistant Commissioner, D.M.R. met with senior officers in the Crumlin District and members of the murder investigation team.

The Garda Commissioner Mr. Fachtna Murphy has extended the sympathies of An Garda Síochána to the families of Pawel Kalite and Marius Szwajkos.

The Commissioner together with Deputy Commissioner Operations, Martin Callinan and Assistant Commissioner Al McHugh met with senior officers in the Crumlin District and members of the murder investigation team this afternoon. Speaking after the meeting, Commissioner Murphy said: "This was a terrible crime which has shocked the community of Drimnagh and people right across the country. I offer my condolences and those of An Garda Síochána to the families of Pawel Kalite and Marius Szwajkos. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult and painful time."

He continued: "Having spoken with the investigation team today I am satisfied that enquiries to date have been thorough and painstaking. Gardaí are focused on establishing primary evidence and bringing those responsible to justice. They are receiving solid support from the community in Drimnagh who have worked diligently and successfully with local gardaí in recent years to reduce crime and build a safe neighbourhood. There is a strong relationship between the community in Drimnagh and the local community gardaí and this appalling incident contrasts greatly with the spirit and character of the people in that community."

The Commissioner said that while he is constrained from commenting in detail on the incident as files are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, the investigation into the murders is progressing satisfactorily. He added: "Gardaí continue to appeal for information on the events of last Saturday evening which ended with two young men tragically and prematurely losing their lives. I appeal to people to help us progress this investigation further and to stand up for their communities by coming forward with information. Working together we can prevent crimes, solve problems and secure justice for victims."
