Shooting in Finglas, Dublin on the 23/8/08

Gardaí at Finglas are investigating a double shooting that occurred shortly before 7pm on the 23/8/08.

 

Superintendent John Harnett will address the media at 2pm today (24/08/08) at Finglas Garda Station in relation to last nights shooting.

Gardaí at Finglas are investigating a double shooting that occurred shortly before 7pm this evening. 

Two men wearing balaclavas entered the Jolly Toper public house on Church Street and went upstairs.  They were both armed with what is believed to be handguns and they singled out 2 men who were drinking there.  They shot each of these men a number of times.  Both men were taken to the Mater Hospital where one of them died a short time later.  The other man's injuries are not believed to be life threatening. 

No arrests have been made at this time and investigations are ongoing. 

The scene is being preserved pending a full forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.  The services of The State Pathologist have also been requested.
