Murder of Raonaid Murray - 4/9/99 - Renewed appeal 9th Anniversary.

Renewed appeal by the Gardaí at Dun Laoghaire who are continuing their investigation into the murder of Raonaid Murray which occurred on the 4th September 1999.

Gardaí at Dun Laoghaire are continuing their investigation into the murder of Raonaid Murray which occurred on the 4th September 1999.

After the Garda appeal for information in 2007 a number of members of the public came forward and provided information to Gardaí which assisted the murder investigation.  This year Gardaí are again renewing their appeal to the public for their assistance to further progress the murder investigation.

This is the 9th anniversary of Raonaid’s brutal and apparently motiveless murder which occurred on the 4th September 1999. Gardaí have interviewed thousands of people to date and taken their statements but have been unable to identify Raonaid’s killer.

Raonaid Murray left Scott's Public House in Dun Laoghaire at 11.20pm on the night of Friday 3rd September 1999. Her body was found at Silchester Crescent in Glenageary at 12.40am, only 500 yards from her home. Gardai believe Raonaid was attacked between midnight and 12.10am. The walk from Dun Laoghaire is approximately 15 minutes consequently there is a period of 20 to 35 minutes in Raonaid's last movements that have not been accounted for.  Many of the people who were around Dun Laoghaire on the night of the murder were in their late teens and early twenties. These people are now in their twenties and thirties.

Gardaí believe that there may still be some people that have vital information who have not come forward to date. These people, some now possibly parents themselves, may be in a better position to come forward with information.  The Gardaí are again appealing to those persons to come forward and assist the investigation.  The murder is being reviewed currently  and this is an opportune time for anyone with information to come forward.

Any information provided to the Gardaí will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.  Gardaí have continued their investigation into this brutal murder.  The Murray family also appeal to the public for any information which may lead to the arrest of Raonaid’s killer.  The family urge anybody with information to contact the Garda Incident room at Dun Laoghaire, phone 01-6665012 or alternatively on the Garda Confidential line at 1800 666 111.

The solving of this murder remains a top priority for An Gárda Síochána.  Please note interviews will not be provided by the family or An Garda Siochana. Photographs and artists impressions of suspects are available on request from the Garda Press Office.
