Suspected explosive device at Cabra West, Dublin on the 14/4/08.

A call was received at the Garda Communications Centre from a female stating that a suspicious device was attached to the underside of a car.

 

At approximately 10.40pm on the 14th April 2008 a call was received at the Garda Communications Centre from a female stating that a suspicious device was attached to the underside of a car parked in the driveway of her house. 

The house in question is on Broombridge Road, Cabra West, Dublin 7. 

On arrival at scene Gardaí examined the device, evacuated houses in the immediate vicinity, closed the road to the passage of traffic and created a safe cordon. 

The services of the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were requested and when they arrived they carried out a controlled explosion. 

The device was confirmed as a viable 'nail pipe bomb'. 

The device was taken to McKee Barracks for further examination and other items found at the scene as well as the car involved will be technically examined. 

At 1.30am all residents were returned to their homes and the road was re-opened. 

This matter is being investigated from Cabra Garda Station. 

No arrests have been made to date.
