Gardai in Galway are investigating an incident where a firearm was discharged on Whitestrand Road, Galway at 22.00 p.m on the 18th April 2008.
One male wearing a balaclava approached a van on Whitestrand Road, and discharged a firearm.
There were three men in the van at the time and one received injuries to his hand.
The injured man aged 21 years was taken to University Hospital, Galway.
One male aged 42 years was arrested under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act in the early hours of 19th April, 2008 and is currently detained at Mill Street Garda Station, Galway.
