Office of Corporate Communications

The Office of Corporate Communications is the ‘public face’ of An Garda Síochána and represents the Garda Commissioner. 

The Office of Corporate Communications operates the following Sections – Garda Press Office, Corporate Communications which oversees the Garda social media presence and public awareness campaigns, and Internal Communications.

The Office is headed by the Director of Communications. A key function of this role is to provide strategic advice to the Garda Commissioner and senior Garda management relating to issues that could impact on the reputation of the organisation.

As part of this, the Director of Communications provides the Garda Commissioner and senior Garda managers with communications materials such as speeches, opening statements, and briefing materials in advance of key public appointments such as media events and appearances before oversight bodies such as the Policing Authority and Oireachtas Committees.

The HEO, Public Affairs Co-ordinator will be responsible for the development of such material, as well as regular briefings to senior management on emerging issues in the public and political spheres that could impact on An Garda Síochána.

The HEO, Public Affairs Co-ordinator will report directly to the Director of Communications. All staff members of the Office of Corporate Communications are subject to the Official Secrets Act.
