DNA analysis on human remains, located on Sunday 24th January 2015, has established that they are those of Kenneth O’Brien whose torso was discovered at Ardclough on 16th January.
On Sunday 24th January 2016, Gardaí recovered potential evidential items that may be linked to the investigation of the murder of Kenneth O'Brien. Further items were discovered at Sallins, County Kildare by the Garda Water Unit.
Gardaí again asked people returning to their property or premises to check to see if there was anything unusual. Was a room or equipment disturbed or their premises in anyway different than when they left. Did you as an employee or employer notice anything different in your premises?
Gardaí continue to seek witnesses and wish to speak to anyone who was in or around the Grand Canal near Ardclough on Friday 15th and early Saturday 16th January 2016 to contact them. Investigating Gardaí are also keen to speak to anyone who may have observed, seen or had any contact with Kenneth since the early hours of Friday morning when he left Lealand Road, Clondalkin or can assist in tracing his movements.
During the appeal Chief Superintendent John McPolin, Naas Garda Station commended the investigative work being carried out by local Gardaí and Garda specialist units.
The family and friends of Kenneth O’Brien wish to thank the public for the messages of support that they continue to receive.
Speaking at Leixlip Garda Station today, Superintendent Gerry Wall appealed "for witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who may have utilised the 5 kilometre walk along the Grand Canal at Sallins, County Kildare, encompassing the old Odlums mill, on Friday 15th, Saturday 16th January 2016 or on any date thereafter, to contact them at Leixlip Garda Station, 01 666 7800, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station."

They continue to seek witnesses and wish to speak to anyone who was in or around the Grand Canal near Ardclough on Friday and early Saturday to contact them. Investigating Gardaí are also keen to speak to anyone who may have observed, seen or had any contact with Kenneth since the early hours of Friday morning when he left Lealand Road in Clondalkin or can assist in tracing his movements.

A series of check points will be carried out this evening in the Ardclough area as part of our ongoing investigations where an opportunity will be provided for persons who visit or use the area to meet Gardaí and provide information if they so wish.
A photo opportunity of the checkpoint will also be provided. However, to assist the investigation team we request that this aspect of the investigation is not reported on until after 6.30pm this evening.

Gardaí investigating the discovery of the body of a man in the Grand Canal near Ardclough, Co Kildare are continuing to appeal for the public’s help.
Following yesterday’s appeal for people who were in the area of the canal between Thursday and Saturday Gardaí received a large number of calls from the public and the information received is being examined by the investigation team. We want to thank anyone who has contacted us and continue to appeal for anyone who was in the area to come forward.
Gardaí are making a fresh appeal today. Superintendent Gerry Wall says, "we know that the man was killed at another location and the focus of our investigation is to find where the man was killed. We are asking people returning to their property or premises after the weekend to check to see if there was anything unusual. Was a room or equipment disturbed or their premises in anyway different than when they left. Did you as an employee of employer notice anything different in your premises? If so please contact the incident room at Leixlip Garda Station 01 666 7800".

Superintendent Gerry Wall says "Gardaí are appealing for anyone who used the canal between last Thursday 14th and Saturday 16th January 2016 in the area between Kearneystown and Ardclough Bridge to contact Leixlip Gara Station on 01 666 7800. People may have walked or cycles or been in the area in the last week and we are asking them to please contact us”.
Garda Divisional Search and the Garda Water Unit continue to search in the area and a full technical examination of the scene is being carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The death is being treated as murder and Gardaí can confirm that the body is that of a male and that there has been no positive identification of the deceased.
The body has been removed to the morgue at Naas general Hospital where Dr Michael Curtis will carry out a post mortem examination this afternoon.

Gardai in Leixlip are investigating the discovery of a body in a container, in the canal at Ardclough Village, Co. Kildare this afternoon, Saturday 16th January, 2016 at approximately 3.30p.m.
The scene is currently preserved pending a technical examination and the body remains at the scene. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.
The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
