Man arrested in connection with armed robbery on Oxmanstown Road, Dublin 7 on the 25/1/16

Gardaí have charged a man, 39 years, in connection with an armed robbery which occurred at a convenience store on Oxmanstown Road, Dublin 7 yesterday afternoon, Monday 25th January shortly before 1.30pm.

He is due to appear before District Court 1, Criminal Courts of Justice this morning Tuesday 26th January 2016 at 10.30am.

An off duty Garda entered the shop yesterday afternoon as an armed robbery was in progress. He identified himself as a member of An Garda Síochána. The off duty Garda, a recent graduate from the Garda College, Templemore, was then threatened at gunpoint by the raider. The off duty Garda confronted the raider, successfully disarmed him and continued to restrain him until local Gardaí arrived.

A firearm has been seized and will be forensically examined. A large kitchen knife was also recovered at the scene.

The arrested man was taken to Mountjoy Garda Station and was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He remains in Garda custody. No injuries were reported.
