Further update - Bodies discovered in Wesport, Co. Mayo - 29th July 2013

Gardai have this evening renewed their appeal for information following the discovery of the bodies of two children in a car at Rosbeg, Co. Mayo earlier today (29/7/2013).

The discovery was made by Gardai who attended the scene of a single vehicle collision on the Old Coast Road at Rosbeg. At approximately 3.30pm a dark green coloured Ford Focus 06 CW 238 collided with a wall. The driver of the car was taken by Ambulance to Mayo General Hospital where he continues to receive medical treatment.


A preliminary examination was carried out at the scene by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Jabbar this evening. The bodies will be removed to Mayo General Hospital for a post-mortem examination tomorrow, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.


An incident room has been established at Westport Garda Station and investigating gardai are continuing to liaise closely with their colleagues in Carlow.


Gardai are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this traffic collision to contact them. They also wish to speak to anyone who observed or spoke to the occupants of a dark green Ford Focus 06 CW 238 between 6.30pm on Sunday evening 28th July and 3.30pm this afternoon 29th July.

Shortly before 4pm on 29th July 2013 Gardaí responding to a single vehicle traffic collision discovered the bodies of two children (both male) in a car.  The incident occurred at Clooneen, Rosbeg, Westport about 4 miles from Westport on the Westport to Louisburgh road.

The scene is preserved for forensic technical examination and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified.  Dr. Khalid Jabbar is expected at the scene later this evening. The Garda Technical Bureau has been notified and are on their way to the scene.

The driver of the car has been taken to hospital.  He is not thought to be seriously injured.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this traffic collision or anyone who may have observed a dark green Ford Focus 06 CW 238 between 6.30pm on Sunday evening 28th July and 4.00pm this afternoon 29th July to contact the incident room at Westport Garda Station on 098 50230.
