Seizure of cigarettes in Dublin on the 10/7/09

Detection and seizure of what are believed to be 2 million contraband cigarettes

 

A joint operation between the Garda Siocahana and the Customs Service at Dublin Port resulted in the detection and seizure of what are believed to be 2 million contraband cigarettes.

 

The cigarettes were seized when Gardai from the Organised Crime Unit stopped a lorry at Neilstown in Dublin on 8th July as part of a planned operation.

 

As part of the investigation Gardai also seized 2 vehicles - a lorry and a van.

 

The investigation is on-going and it's believed the estimated retail value of the cigarettes is approximately €855,000.
