Please note that if you receive a Fixed Charge Notice you should carefully read the document, noting the instructions. This website information is intended only to provide additional information which may assist you in understanding the contents of the Notice.

A total of 56 days is permitted by law for the payment of a fixed charge. The initial period of 28 days from the date of the Fixed Charge Notice allows for payment at the fixed charge amount. A further period of 28 days is permitted to accept payment at the fixed charge amount plus 50% of the fixed charge amount. After 56 days, payment cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

An Garda Síochána is governed by legislation regarding the time periods for nominating drivers and accepting payments. No discretion is allowed with regard to extending these time periods. Please note that these web pages do not amount to a legal document and are for guidance only.
