When you first get your bicycle there are a number of matters you should attend to -
• Take at least one distinguishing coloured photograph of your bicycle.
• Keep a written record of the make, model and frame number of the bike and any unique features that the bike may have e.g. extra fittings,
attachments, markings etc.
• Purchase a good quality lock.
Please see video of bicycle security and safety (Video From Dublin City Council)-
Bikesafe is an initiative run by An Garda Síochána that aims to reduce the number of motorcycle casualties. Under the initiative, advanced Garda motorcyclists use their knowledge, skills and experience to help participants become safer and more competent riders.
Bikesafe schemes are already run by 47 police forces in the UK and Northern Ireland. Over many years they have proved very successful, getting good support and publicity from the motorcycling community.
In Ireland motorcyclists are a high risk group. They account for less than 2% of road users but account for 13.8% of road deaths. Bikesafe is part of a plan to address this high number of motorcycle fatalities and injuries by promoting safer riding.
