Open Day

An Garda Síochána is not currently recruiting, therefore no open days in the Garda College are scheduled at this time.  

Open days at the Garda College are aimed at prospective applicants who wish to join An Garda Síochána. The open day consists of a guided tour of the facilities and lectures on the Trainee Garda Course and the history of the College. There is also an opportunity to meet members from the Specialist Units. 
 

The primary training centre for An Garda Síochána

The Garda College is the main training centre for An Garda Síochána. All initial training for new recruits takes place there. In addition, the Chief Superintendent in charge of the College and his team develop, coordinate and direct all training interventions up to the most senior ranks.  

The College is located in Templemore, Co. Tipperary and the main complex covers an area of roughly 8 acres. Extensive training and sporting facilities are located locally adjacent to the campus.  

Garda College Mission Statement

In partnership with our staff, and in accordance with corporate policy, to identify, respond to and fulfil the developmental needs of all members of An Garda Síochána, up to and including Senior Management ranks, by providing and supporting quality education, training and developmental interventions.  

Courses

The College has been designated an Institute of Higher Education by the Higher Education & Training Awards Council (HETAC). The 2-year Student/Probationer Education Programme is accredited by HETAC with an award of a Bachelor of Arts (Level 7) in Police Studies. The Leadership & Management Development Faculty (LMDF) at the College offers a further two accredited programmes for senior managers: A Bachelor of Arts (Level 8) in Police Management accredited by HETAC and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Executive Leadership accredited by the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School.

The Garda College is linked with the wider network of Police Colleges of Europe through CEPOL, the European Police Colleges Association. It has also forged links with many other police training college worldwide. It is through these networks that the exchange of ideas and policing excellence develops.
