Garda Victim Liaison Office
The Garda Victim Liaison Office (GVLO) is responsible for:
• Formulating Garda Strategy;
• Developing Garda Policy;
• Supporting the implementation of An Garda Síochána’s Victims Charter;
In carrying out this role the GVLO liaises with the following stakeholders:
• The Commission for the Support of Victims of Crime;
• The Victims of Crime Office, Department of Justice and Equality;
• Government funded victim support organisations throughout the country.
GVLO staff also attend conferences and seminars nationally and internationally ensuring that expertise is kept up to date with best national and international practice.
The GVLO provides support to the 360 trained Family Liaison Officers (FLOs) who are appointed to victims of crime and their families in serious cases such as murder or false imprisonments. The principal role of the FLO is to keep victims informed during the investigation and to provide victim support information.
