Murder of James Kavanagh in 2004

James Kavanagh

Gardaí at Irishtown Garda Station are appealing for information in relation to the Murder of James Kavanagh who was murdered in 2004.

Thirty four year old James was socialising with a friend at the Seapoint House pub on Monday the 31st May 2004. The two men left the pub and went to the Ocean bar for food. They left at about 10.30pm and returned to the Seapoint house as James’s friend was collecting a bicycle he had bought the previous week. James remained in the car as his friend went to collect the bike. A man approached the passenger side door of the car and began talking to James. His friend came out of the pub with the bike and asked James to open the boot and as James reached down to pull the boot release he was stabbed by the person he was talking to through the window. This person casually walked away. His friend rushed him to St.Vincent’s Hospital nearby but he died a short time later.
