Career Highlights:

Assistant Commissioner Michael Finn joined An Garda Síochána in April 1982 and he has a wide range of operational, administrative and strategic policing experience.    He has spent the vast majority of his service based in Cork and has also been involved in national level corporate strategy and planning.

In 1982, he started his duty as a Garda in McCurtain Street in Cork city and upon promotion to Sergeant in 1989. He served in Kiltyclogher, Co. Leitrim before returning to Cork City.  He was the District Clerk in Mayfield for four years and served as Sergeant in Charge of Mayfield Garda Station for two years.

He was promoted to Inspector in 1996 and worked in a strategic role as Regional Inspector in the Southern Region.   He also held the role of Regional Traffic Inspector and in 2001 was allocated to Unit and Court Inspector in Anglesea Street District in Cork city.

In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Superintendent and served as District Officer in Bantry and Bandon before taking up as District Officer in Anglesea Street, Cork city.

In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendent and initially attached to Bandon, County Cork in charge of Cork West Division before returning to Anglesea Street to take responsibility as Divisional Officer for Cork City Division in 2009.  During his tenure as Divisional Officer in Cork City Division, he was also involved in a number of national initiatives including the introduction of the national incident management system on PULSE.

He was promoted to Assistant Commissioner on 22nd November 2016 and placed in charge of Roads Policing in An Garda Síochána. As of the 8th of February 2018, he is now the Assistant Commissioner for the South Eastern Region.
