Organised Crime Operation Dublin - 6th September 2017

A firearm has been recovered and one man arrested by members of the Special Crime Task Force during an operation in Dublin

Shortly before 3pm a van failed to stop for Gardaí from the Special Crime Task Force (attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau) during an operation on Kylemore Way, Inchicore.  The van was subsequently stopped and a firearm and silencer were recovered. A man in his late 20s arrested at the scene. A number of shots were fired by Gardaí during the incident. No one was injured. A second vehicle thought to be involved in the incident fled from the scene.

The arrested man is currently detained under Section 30 for the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Ballyfermot Garda Station. Investigating Gardaí have preserved the scene for forensic examination and the Garda Ombudsman Commission have been notified. The operation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
