Male charged - Seizure of firearms at Casement Drive, Finglas

He will appear before Blanchardstown District Court at 10.30am on the 27th October 2017.    


Arrest of male (30 years) and seizure of firearms and ammunition on the 24th October 2017.


At approximately 10.35pm on the 24th October 2017, Gardaí from the K District Drugs Unit were on mobile armed patrol as part of Operation Hybrid. While on Casement Drive, Finglas, Dublin 11 they observed a male acting suspiciously. They approached the male who then fled into a number of gardens, he was observed discarding a ruck sack by Gardaí who were in pursuit.


The male was arrested and conveyed to Finglas Garda station. The ruck sack was recovered close by and Gardaí discovered two firearms (two handguns) and a quantity of ammunition in the ruck sack(all subject to ballistic examination). The male is currently being detained at Finglas Garda station under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

During a search of the suspect, Gardaí found a set of keys and following a search of the area Gardaí discovered a stolen car parked on Casement Drive associated with the keys.
