As part of an on-going operation into dissident republican activity Gardaí stopped and searched a vehicle on Spring Garden Street, Ballybough in the inner city at approximately 6 p.m. this evening, Friday 2nd June, 2017 where two men were arrested.

The arrested men are being detained at Clontarf Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30, of the Offences against the State Act 1939 as amended.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team are en route to the scene and roads are currently closed. Local diversions are in place.   As part of the going operation by Gardaí into the activities of dissident republicans, that occurred on Friday 2nd June, 2017 the two arrested men (21 years & 28 years) have had their period of detention extended and remain in custody.

A significant amount of suspected explosives was found in the car.

In a follow up search that took place later yesterday evening in Dublin, a third man (55 years) was arrested and he is currently detained at Raheny Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939, as amended.
