Man arrested - Fatal stabbing in Longford Town on the 1/11/16

Gardaí have arrested a man, 24 years, in connection with the investigation into a fatal stabbing that occurred in the Great Water Street area of Longford this morning, Tuesday 1st November 2016 at approximately 11.50am.

The man was arrested in the Longford area this afternoon and is currently detained at Longford Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A man, believed to be in his early 30's was discovered with chest wounds. He was removed to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead this afternoon. The scene was preserved and technically examined.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the Great Water Street/Rue Noyal Chetillon Street/ or the area of the shopping centre between 11.30am and 12noon today to contact Gardaí at Longford on 043-3350570, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

Gardaí in Longford are appealing for the public's assistance following a fatal stabbing of a man in Longford town this morning, Tuesday 1st November 2016.

The incident occurred in the Great Water Street area of Longford at approximately 11.50am this morning. The man, believed to be in his early 30's was discovered with chest wounds. He was removed to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead this afternoon.
 
The scene has been preserved for technical examination. There have been no arrests at this stage.
