Two men charged in connection with investigation into prisoner escape Tallaght on the 17/2/15

Gardaí have charged two men, 32 and 58 years, in connection with the investigation into the escape from custody of a male prisoner from Tallaght Hospital which occurred on 17th February 2015.

The men are due to appear before Tallaght District Court this morning, Friday 8th January 2016 at 10.30am.

The two men were arrested in the County Meath area this morning and remain in Garda custody at Rathfarnham Garda Station.

Gardaí in Tallaght are investigating an incident which occurred in Tallaght Hospital at approximately 3pm this afternoon 17th February 2015 during which a prisoner escaped from custody.

Prison officers were escorting a prisoner named Derek Brockwell, aged 53 to Tallaght Hospital for treatment when an incident occurred during which he escaped from custody and two prison officers were injured. The prisoner, Derek Brockwell, is currently serving a sentence at Portlaoise Prison. He is described as being 6’03’’ tall with brown hair and broad build.

Gardaí have this morning, Tuesday 3rd March 2015, arrested three people in connection with an investigation into the serious assault of two prison officers and the escape from custody of a male prisoner from Tallaght Hospital which occurred on 17th February 2015.
A man and woman aged in their early 60's were arrested in County Meath and a man, mid 30's, was arrested in Portlaoise. All three are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Tallaght and Rathfarnham Garda Stations.
