Gardaí have arrested two males and recovered a firearm during an operation in Co. Laois.
The discovery was made shortly before 6pm when a car was stopped and searched on the M7 near Mountrath. A firearm and a number of suspicious devices have been recovered. The Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal have been requested to attend the scene which is currently preserved.
A male aged in his 40's and a second in his late teens were arrested at the scene. Both are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Portlaoise Garda Station.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
