Update - Fatal traffic collision on the N24, Kilkenny on the 4/8/16

Gardaí at Thomastown Co Kilkenny investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred at 1am this morning (4/8/16) have arrested a 53 year old man in connection with this investigation.

The man was arrested this afternoon and is currently detained at Thomastown Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny are appealing for witnesses following fatal collision on the 4th August 2016.

At approximately 1am a car collided with a second vehicle on the westbound carriageway of the N24 Piltown By Pass near Fiddown. The second vehicle failed to remain at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the car, a man in his 20s, was seriously injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. His body has since been removed to University Hospital Waterford for a post-mortem examination.

The west bound carriageway of the N24 at the scene of the collision is currently closed to traffic and Garda forensic collision investigators will carry out an examination this morning (4/8/2016). The local coroner has been notified.
