Witness appeal - Suspicious fire in Rhode, Offaly on the 7/9/15

At 1.50am Monday 7th September 2015 Gardaí were alerted to a house fire at Cloncur, Rhode, Co Offaly.

On arrival Gardaí discovered a 24 year old male with extensive burn injuries and a number of stab wounds to his body. This man is currently in a critical condition at St James Hospital in Dublin.

An incident-room has been set up at Tullamore Garda Station and a conference has taken place. House to house inquiries are currently taking place in the Rhode area. A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed and is liaising with the family. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.

This afternoon Inspector Kieran Keyes, Tullamore Garda Station, issued the following appeal, "I am appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who may have been in the Rhode area of County Offaly last night or early this morning, between 12 midnight and 2am Monday 7th September 2015 to contact Gardaí at Tullamore Garda Station on 057-9327600, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.”

Gardaí investigating the circumstances surrounding a suspicious fire at a house at Coolcur, Rhode, Co Offaly and the discovery of a seriously injured man this morning, will hold a media briefing at Tullamore Garda Station this afternoon, Monday 7th September 2015 at 5pm.

Gardai in Tullamore are investigating a suspicious fire at a house in Rhode, Co. Offaly on the 7th September 2015.

The incident occurred between 11.30pm on the 6th and 1.50am on the 7th September 2015 at a house at Coolcur, Rhode, Co Offaly. A male (24years) was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Tullamore Hospital but has since been transferred to St James Hospital. His condition is described as critical. Gardai have received no reports of anyone else injured in the incident.

 
The scene has been preserved for a Technical examination and investigations are ongoing.
