Man charged - Drugs seizure and arrest in Athy, Kildare on the 5/10/15

Gardaí have charged a man, 43 years, in connection with the seizure of cannabis plants and herb with an estimated value of €700,000, pending analysis.

He is due to appear before Naas District Court this morning, Wednesday 7th October 2015 at 10.30am.

The drugs seizure occurred at Ard Scoil, Athy, Co Kildare on Monday night, 5th October 2015 following the planned search of a premises by Gardaí.

The man was arrested in the Athy area on Tuesday morning 6th October 2015 and was detained at Kildare Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He remains in Garda custody.

As part of an intelligence led operation into the illegal sale and supply of controlled drugs in the County Kildare area Gardaí from the Kildare Drugs & Crime Unit assisted by local Gardaí have seized cannabis plants and herb with an estimated value of €700,000, pending analysis.

The seizure was made following the planned search of a premises in the Ard Scoil area of Athy, Co Kildare last night, Monday 5th October 2015 shortly after 11pm.

The premises was found to be a fully functioning 'grow house' and a number of items of drug cultivation paraphernalia were seized.

A man, 43 years, was arrested early this morning in the Athy area and is currently detained at Kildare Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
