Fatal Traffic Collision Co. Monaghan 10th October 2015

Gardaí in Ballybay are appealing for witnesses following a fatal traffic collision in Co. Monaghan on the 10th October 2015.

 
 
The incident occurred at approximately 5.30pm when two cars collided on the R188, Monaghan to Cootehill road, at Stranooden.

A passenger in one of the cars, a female aged in her 80s, was taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. She was part of a group of five travelling in the car at the time of the collision. The driver of the car (female 40s) and a second passenger (male 90s) were also removed from the scene to Cavan General Hospital with minor injuries, while two further passengers did not require hospital treatment.

The driver of the second car (female 70s) was also taken to Cavan General Hospital, her injuries are not thought to be life threatening. She was the sole occupant of the car.
 

The road is closed, diversions are in place and Garda Forensic Collision investigators are expected to examine the scene this morning (11/10/2015).

The Coroner has been notified of the incident.
