Gardaí are investigating a fatal assault which occurred in the Mayfield area, Cork this morning Monday 23rd November 2015 at approximately 8am.
The body of a woman, 60 years, was discovered in a house on Murmount Avenue, Montenotte. The body remains at scene. A man, aged in his 60's, has been taken to Mercy University Hospital Cork with non life theatening injuries.
One man, mid 20's, was arrested at scene and is currently detained at Mayfield Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
The scene has been preserved for technical examination and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified.
